AR Rahman to Debut as Producer, Writer in Film ‘99 Songs’

The film will release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

On Thursday, music maestro AR Rahman announced his debut in the filmmaking space. The singer and musician took to Twitter to announce his debut as a film producer and writer with 99 Songs. Rahman described the film as “a young, passionate love story, with music as its soul.”

He also announced that 99 Songs will release in cinemas worldwide in three different languages - Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on 21 June, 2019.

“I am very excited to announce the release of my very first film as producer and writer, 99 Songs, a young, passionate love story, with music at its soul. 99 Songs will be released in cinemas in three languages Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on June 21, 2019. I thank you all for the love, support and encouragement you have showered on me”, he tweeted.

99 Songs is directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, and the film is backed by Rahman's banner Y.M. Movies and Jio Studios. A romantic musical that has been in the woks for a couple of years, 99 Songs will feature fresh faces Ehan Bhat, Edilsy Varghese and Tenzin Dalha. Manisha Koirala and Lisa Ray will also appear in the film as supporting characters.

Recently, AR Rahman also teamed up with Marvel Studios to create an exclusive Indian Marvel anthem in anticipation of the upcoming film Avengers: Endgame.
