The trailer launch for the much awaited period epic Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi was held at IMAX Wadala in Mumbai on Tuesday, 18 December. Kangana Ranaut arrived at the event dressed in character as the queen followed by her royal assistants. She was dressed in royal regalia and the venue was made up to look like a grand fort.

Kangana’s procession was showered with flowers as she walked in. She then lighted the traditional diya to officially begin the ceremony. Kangana and her troupe posed underneath a large statue of Shivaji, after which they showered him with flowers as well.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is based on the life of the titular Rani Lakshmibai who was the first woman to raise arms against the British. The film also stars Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta, Atul Kulkarni and Danny Denzongpa in important roles. After director Krish quit the project along with actor Sonu Sood, the film has been helmed by Kangana Ranaut. It is set for release on Republic Day 2019.
