Anurag Kashyap is back - this time with a gritty boxing drama set in a corrupt and casteist Uttar Pradesh. The just released trailer of Mukkabaaz traces the story of Shravan, a low-caste boxer who takes on a ruthless and high-caste local boxing association member who wants to destroy his career. Things go further south when he falls in love with his nemesis’ niece.

With a wow-inducing Vineet Kumar Singh and a downright scary Jimmy Sheirgill in the lead roles, Mukkabaaz may just be the boxing story we have been waiting for. Check out the trailer here:

“I would define the film as a socio-political love story about a sportsman, a boxer, in contemporary India. I wanted to make a film about sports which talked honestly about that sport. What is the status of boxing in India? That has to be portrayed with honesty. If the film was about cricket, it would be a different story. But the film is about boxing. And while making a film like this, the economic strata of people who get into boxing, and why they get into boxing, should come in.”
Anurag Kashyap (as told to <a href="http://www.firstpost.com/entertainment/mukkabaaz-is-a-socio-political-love-story-about-a-sportsman-and-a-boxer-says-anurag-kashyap-4247223.html">Firstpost</a>)

Also starring Zoya Hussain and Ravi Kishan, Mukkabaaz hits theatres on 12 January.
