According to a report in Mid-Day, Mukesh Ambani is set to co-produce superstar Aamir Khan's dream epic Mahabharata.

The RIL business magnate, whose media entities comprise Jio and Viacom18 recently invested in entertainment companies Eros and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms.

Though there has been no official announcement, the buzz has set tongues wagging that Khan’s Mahabharata franchise, the series of which could span across 3-5 parts will be bestowed with a budget of Rs 1,000 crore. The production is geared to take on the scale of HBO’s The Game of Thrones and the Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Sources confided in Mid-Day that international writers and multiple directors will be involved to up its global appeal.

Aamir Khan is deeply invested in the magnum opus and even turned down Mahesh Mathai's biopic on cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma, for its sake, in keeping with his streak of perfectionism.

He is currently busy with the filming of Thugs of Hindostan, which is slated to release in November, 2018.
