EC Holds Training Session for Officials in J&K’s Doda

The Election Commission has organized a training program for around 1800 Presiding Officers and Polling Staff in J&K’s Doda district from 25 March to 1 April for Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Training session includes videos demonstrating duties of polling personnel and hands-on training on use of EVMs and VVPATs.

Two MGP MLAs Join BJP in Goa

Two of the three MLAs of Goa’s Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the wee hours of Wednesday, 27 March, The Indian Express reported. The BJP’s strength in the Goa assembly is now up to 14.

The MGP is currently an is currently a part of the BJP-led coalition government in the state.

EC Seeks Details of Niti Aayog VC's Comments on Congress

The Election Commission is learnt to have decided to seek details of remarks made by Niti Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar in which he had attacked Congress over minimum income guarantee promise.

Sources in the poll panel told PTI, since Kumar is part of "bureaucratic executive", such remarks may be violative of the model code.

"It is not a case of one politician attacking the other or one party attacking the other," said a functionary.

Kumar had accused the Congress of promising the moon to win elections.

He had also tweeted, saying "The proposed income guarantee scheme fails the economics test, fiscal discipline test and execution test".

EC Pulls Up Railways, Air India Over Modi's Face on Tickets

The Election Commission writes to Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Civil Aviation, asking them why have the pictures of PM Modi have not been removed from rail tickets and Air India boarding passes even after Model Code of Conduct has come into effect. They have been asked to submit a reply within three days.

Three-Cornered Contest Likely in Telangana

With the process of filing nominations coming to a close, battle lines have been drawn in Telangana for the Lok Sabha elections in what appears to be mainly a three-cornered contest among the ruling TRS, Congress and the BJP.

Telangana, with 17 Lok Sabha constituencies, goes to the polls in the first phase on 11 April.

AIMIM to contest only Aurangabad LS seat in Maharashtra

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has said his party would contest only the Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra and no other seat.

"AIMIM has decided that it will be only contesting ONLY the Aurangabad parliamentary constituency in Maharashtra & will not be contesting Mumbai or any other seat," Owaisi tweeted.

The party on Tuesday, 26 March announced the candidature of Imtiaz Jaleel from Aurangabad.

P Chidambaram Defends Cong's NYAY Scheme

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, during a press conference on Wednesday, 27 March, defended the Congress’ Minimum Income scheme, saying that the party has consulted with experts in the subject and that India has the capacity to implement a scheme of this kind.

He said that the scheme, which is said to benefit 25 crore people. And that given India’s capacity, it could have been implemented 20 years ago as well.
