T'Gana Cong Writes to EC Over 'Significant' Rise in Final Poll Percentage

The Congress Friday wrote to the Election Commission over a "significant" increase in the total polling percentage in Telangana announced at 5 pm on April 11 and the final figure declared the next day.

A Congress delegation submitted a letter to the poll body and urged it to furnish documents such as copies of reports from Returning Officers about the polling.

Naxalism Confined to 15% in India Under Modi Rule: Shah

BJP president Amit Shah Friday claimed Naxalism has been confined to 15 per cent in the country under the Narendra Modi administration.

He was addressing an election meeting here in favour of sitting BJP MP and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

"During the Congress government, the entire country faced the problem of Naxalism, but with Narendra Modi becoming the prime minister and Rajnath Singh as home minister, Naxalism gradually got confined to mere 15 per cent," Shah claimed.

Complaint Filed Against Ravi Kishan Over Discrepancies in Poll Affidavit

A complaint has been filed with the returning officer in Gorakhpur over discrepancies in Ravi Kishan’s poll affidavit. Kishan has reportedly declared himself as "intermediate pass" in his election affidavit.

Ravi Kishan, who contested the 2014 elections from Jaunpur on a Congress ticket, in his then affidavit claimed that he was a graduate, according to the complaint filed by Santosh Kumar, a youth from Kushinagar.

AAP-Congress Alliance Would Have Been Better for BJP: Harsh Vardhan

The alliance talks between the Congress and the AAP may have failed, but for Union minister Harsh Vardhan, the tie-up would have been better for the BJP not just in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, but for next year's Delhi Assembly election too.

"For us, it is not a question of whether the alliance has taken place or not. Personally, I feel if they had allied with each other and if we defeated them with that understanding, it would have been better for the BJP, because then we would have taken care of the next election also," the Chandni Chowk candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha polls and the sitting MP from the seat said.

'Army Not PM Modi's Personal Property': Rahul Gandhi

Addressing a press conference, Congress President Rahul Gandhi took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a variety of subjects ranging from jobs to the Rafale deal.

Training his guns at the government, Gandhi reiterated tat the biggest problem in the country at the moment was unemployment. “Country is asking that Modi ji you promised us 2 crore jobs,what about that? He doesn't speak a word on jobs or farmers as he has nothing to say,” he said.

Lashing out at the Prime Minister for ridiculing the Congress’s claims of having conducted surgical strikes in the UPA era, Gandhi said:

“The Army, Air Force or Navy are not personal properties of Narendra Modi ji like he thinks. When he says that surgical strikes during UPA were done in video games then he is not insulting Congress but the Army.”

Gandhi said that while he had apologised for having wrongly attributed the ‘Chowkidar chor hai’ slogan to the Supreme Court, the party will continue to use it as their catchphrase. “Congress party has demolished Narendra Modi ji, it is a hollow structure and in 10- 20 days, it will come crumbling down,” he said.

PM Modi is Nervous Now: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot

Speaking to ANI, Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot alleged that PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah were nervous of the Congress campaign and were hence holding 3-4 meetings everyday.

“Congress campaign has been very good and well managed. Due to which PM Modi and Amit Shah are focusing on Rajasthan and campaigning continuously. PM is doing three meetings in a day which means they are nervous now,” he said.

'Mahagathbandhan' Will Give Rise to 'Mahabhrashtachar': PM Modi

Intensifying his attack on the Opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 4 May, said the 'mahagathbandhan' (grand alliance) will give rise to 'mahabhrashtachar' (grand corruption).

Modi said the Congress has been reduced to the status of 'vote katwa' party and it will soon witness its "downfall", as per PTI.

"See its (Congress) downfall," he said, as he made a no-holds barred attack against party president Rahul Gandhi, warning him that he will succumb to "ahankaar" (self pride).

EC Biased Against Opposition: Rahul

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, 4 May, accused the Election Commission (EC) of being "biased" against the opposition and said that capturing of institutions will have a negative effect in the future.

"Where there are matters of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Election Commission is on a straight line and on the matters of the Opposition, it is completely biased," the Congress leader said at a press conference in New Delhi, as per IANS.

If Opposition Wins, There Will be Different PM Everyday: Shah

BJP president Amit Shah said Saturday that if an alliance of Opposition parties came to power, there will be a different prime minister every day.

The Opposition is leaderless, Shah said, addressing an election rally at Govindgarh in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh.

"Friends, tell me who will be the leader of the alliance....I am asking who will be their leader, but there is no reply," he said, as per PTI.

Final Poll Percentage of 4 Phases Declared

The final voter turnout in four phases of Lok Sabha election has been announced. The poll percentages for the four phases are: Phase-1: 69.5%, Phase-2: 69.44%, Phase-3: 68.4%, Phase-4: 65.51%, news agency ANI reported.

Prakash Raj to Campaign for AAP

Actor Prakash Raj, who fought the Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate from the Bengaluru Central seat, said he will campaign for the AAP in Delhi for a week, news agency PTI.

"The Aam Aadmi Party is fighting the elections on the issues of health, education, their vision and based on their work," he said.
