Polling has concluded in 95 constituencies across India, in the second phase of elections, on Thursday, 18 April. The seven-phase voting will end on 19 May, and the results will be announced on 23 May.

EC Seeks Report from WB Poll Officer on Alleged Biopic of Mamata Banerjee

The Election Commission has sought a report from the West Bengal chief electoral officer on an alleged biopic on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The biopic titled – ''Baghini'' – is slated to release on 3 May.

The BJP had approached the poll panel seeking a ban on the release of the movie till the election process is over.

The BJP has also asked the poll body to review the alleged biopic on the Trinamool Congress supremo.

"Not Going to Retire": HD Devegowda

Former Prime Minister HD Devegowda reiterated his decision to not retire from politics just yet. Speaking to ANI, he said: “I announced three years back that I will not contest polls. There are circumstances now in which I have been forced to contest. I have no ambition for anything but what I always said I am not going to retire from active politics.”

Mulayam, Maya to Share Stage Today

At loggerheads for decades, SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati are scheduled to share the dais at a joint rally of the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in the Samajwadi Party citadel of Mainpuri on Friday, news agency PTI reported.

Preparations are underway for the rally at Christian Field to send out a message to our political opponents that the alliance against the BJP in Uttar Pradesh shares a strong bond, an SP party leader said.

WB Poll Officer Incharge of EVMs Reportedly Missing

Nadia District Nodal Election Officer Arnab Roy is reportedly missing. He was at Bipradas Choudhury Polytechnic College for his poll duty yesterday and after lunch went untraceable.

He is incharge of the EVMs and VVPATs. Police has begun investigation, reported news agency ANI.

Goa Govt Employees Warned Against Poll Campaigning

Election authorities in Goa have warned of strict disciplinary action against government employees found campaigning for any particular party or candidate in the state, reported news agency PTI.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kunal has directed government servants to refrain from getting involved in any poll campaign-related activities.

The directions were issued after the CEO's office came across instances of government employees getting engaged in disseminating contents related to political parties and also posting election propaganda material on social media.

EC Issues Notice to Rahul Gandhi for MCC Violation

Election Commission issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, 18 April for violation of Model Code of Conduct over Congress’ NYAY banner put up on a wall in Amethi, reported news agency ANI.

EC says banner was put up without permission of the owner of building. He has been asked to reply in 24 hours.

EC Files MCC Violation Complaint Against Milind Deora

Maharashtra state Election Commission on Friday, 19 April, filed a complaint against Mumbai Congress President Milind Deora for violating Model Code of Conduct, weeks after remarks on Jain religion, reported news agency ANI.

On 4 April, Deora, while addressing an event at Zhaveri bazar, accused Shiv Sena of hurting religious sentiments of Jain followers. Deora urged the community to teach them a lesson by not voting them in the Lok Sabha election.

JD(U) Urges EC to Cancel Nominations of RJD Candidates

The ruling Janata Dal (United) in Bihar on Friday wrote to the Election Commission seeking cancellation of nominations of RJD candidates in case they were issued tickets with Lalu Prasad’s signature, without the jailed leader taking permission from the court for the same, reported news agency PTI.

Congress general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday, 19 April termed the Bhopal Lok Sabha contest between colleague Digvijaya Singh and BJP's Pragya Singh Thakur as a fight between two ideologies.

He was responding to a query on Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, earlier claiming that her fight with Singh, a strident critic of the Sangh Parivar, was a "dharm yudh".

EC Revises Voting Time for J&K's Anantnag

The Election Commission of India, on Friday, 19 April, revised the poll timings for Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency which is going to polls in three phases from 23 April 2019, in view of law and order situation. Polling time is now 7:00 am to 4:00 pm instead of 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
