Less than a month after he was won over by the Congress leadership, maverick legislator Alpesh Thakore seems to have decided to queer the pitch for his own party, with two members of his Kshatriya Thakore Sena contesting for Banaskantha Lok Sabha and Unjha Assembly by-elections as Independents.

Swarupji Thakore, who was expected to withdraw his nominations on the last day of withdrawals on Monday, continues in the fray in Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat in north Gujarat as an Independent candidate. Several attempts by the Congress to get Thakore failed.

EC Says Telangana CM Prima Facie Violated Model Code by Making Communal Remarks

The Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, finding him prima facie guilty of allegedly passing derogatory remarks against Hindus while addressing an election rally in Karimnagar last month.

Now, he has been asked to furnish his reply by 12 April evening, failing which the Commission will take a decision "without any further reference to you".

Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will drive the BJP out of power and ensure that Narendra Modi will never again be the prime minister of the country again.

The Trinamool Congress will help form the next government at the Centre, she claimed and urged the people to vote for it.

FIR Filed Against DMK's Vellore Candidate

The Police on Wednesday, 10 April filed an FIR against DMK's Vellore candidate for the Lok Sabha polls and two others in connection with the Income Tax raids held in the district recently.

The FIR has been filed against DMK nominee DM Kathir Anand under the Representation of People Act for giving “wrong information” in his poll affidavit filed along with his nomination papers, police said without divulging details.

Brothers Who Survived Gulberg Massacre to Contest LS Polls

Two brothers, who survived the 2002 Gulberg Society massacre are contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Gujarat.

Imtiyaz Khan Pathan is a candidate of the Apna Desh Party from Kheda, while his elder brother Firoz Khan Pathan has filed his nomination as an Independent from Gandhinagar, where he is pitted against BJP Chief Amit Shah.

The Pathan brothers lost as many as 10 members of their family, including their mother and grandmother, when an angry mob attacked the Gulberg Society in Ahmedabad after the 2002 Godhra train burning incident.

Stage Set for First Phase of Polling in 8 Constituencies in UP

The stage is set for polling in eight Lok Sabha seats of western Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, 11 April, amidst tight security in the first leg of the seven-phased general elections.

HC Judge Recuses Self From Hearing Plea to Bar Omar & Mehbooba From LS Polls

A Delhi High Court judge Wednesday recused himself from hearing a plea seeking a direction to the Election Commission to bar Jammu and Kashmir politicians Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti from participating in the Lok Sabha election for allegedly making “seditious” statements.

Justice AJ Bhambhani, who was part of the division bench headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon, recused himself from hearing the matter.
