The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has directed the Serum Institute of India to suspend new recruitment in phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials of the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine candidate until further orders, news agency PTI reported on Friday, 11 September.
The DCGI, the apex body responsible for overseeing clinical trials, has also called for enhanced safety monitoring of those who have already received the dosage.

Maharashtra Police on Saturday, 12 September said that 485 personnel of the state police tested positive for coronavirus and one died in the last 24 hours.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 infections in the force to 18,890 including 3,729 active cases, 14,975 recovered cases and 186 deaths, ANI reported.
A total of 4,321 coronavirus positive cases were recorded in the national capital on Saturday, 12 September, said the government release.
