The number of coronavirus cases in India rose by 45,720 to 12,38,635 on Thursday, 23 July, in what is the biggest one-day spike.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are now 4,26,167 active cases across the country, while 7,82,606 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated. The death toll currently stands at 29,861
Delhi on Thursday reported 1,041 new COVID-19 cases and 26 fatalities, taking the tally in the national capital to 1,27,364 and the death toll to 3,745.
Maharashtra on Thursday reported 9,895 new COVID-19 cases and 298 deaths, taking the tally in the state to over 3.47 lakh and the death toll to 12,854.
Andhra Pradesh on Thursday reported 7,998 new COVID-19 cases and 61 deaths, taking the tally in the state to 72,711 and the death toll to 884.
Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 6,472 new COVID-19 cases and 88 deaths, taking the tally in the state to 1,92,964 and the death toll to 3,232. This was the biggest one-day spike in the state in terms of the number of cases.
As many as 4,615 ‘shramik’ special trains have been operated since 1 May, the last one being on 9 July, with over 63 lakh people sent home, the Railways said on Thursday.
The Kohima municipal area will be under total lockdown from 25 to 31 July, as promulgated by the deputy commissioner and chairperson of the District Task Force, the Kohima Police said on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu started plasma banks for the treatment of COVID-19.
“Like Delhi, we have also started a plasma bank on Chief Minister's orders. More than 1.25 lakh people have recovered in the state, they can be of great help to the infected people,” J Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Principal Health Secretary, was quoted by ANI as saying.
