India on Wednesday, 19 August, reported 64,531 new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally in the country to 27,67,274. The death toll increased by 1,092 to 52,889.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 6,76,514 active cases across the country, while 20,37,870 patients have been discharged.
Meanwhile, in a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Wednesday, approval was given for the reopening of hotels in the national capital. Weekly markets can also reopen on a trial basis, but gymnasiums will remain closed.

With spike of 64,531 cases in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 tally in the country on Wednesda rose to 27,67,274 including 6,76,514 active cases, 20,37,871 discharged/migrated and 52,889 deaths.
The total number of samples tested up to 18 August is 3,17,42,782 including 8,01,518 samples tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
Rajasthan reported at least 699 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The total number of cases in the state stands at 64,676.

Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 5,795 new COVID-19 cases and 116 fatalities, taking the tally in the state to 3,55,449 and the death toll to 6,123. As many as 6,384 recoveries were also reported on Wednesday.
Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 13,165 new COVID-19 cases and 346 fatalities, taking the tally in the state to 6,28,642 and the death toll to 21,033. This is the biggest one-day spike in cases in the state worst-hit by coronavirus.
