With Britain evenly split over Brexit, America-based British comedian John Oliver took up the job to explain the implications that will follow if Britain votes to exit from the EU.

Punching holes through the pro-leave arguments, Oliver said, “Unfortunately many of the Brexit debates are bullshit.”

Since the referendum date is set on 23 June, both the Pro-Leave and Pro-Remain factions have been carrying on unyielding campaigns, often overstating their arguments.

As a result, there is quite the confusion among the British regarding the pros and cons of such a move.

Correcting the factually incorrect claims of Former Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who’s been riding around a bus with a message that says that London sends £350 million to EU every week, Oliver said:

That number has been thoroughly debunked! It’s actually about £190 million a week when you consider a rebate the UK receives and other money that the EU sends back – on top of which, if Britain does leave the EU, it has to spend close to that amount just to access the common market.

Explaining the racist agenda behind the Pro-Leave arguments, he pointed out the hardline anti-immigration views that Brexit’s prime supporter – the UK Independence Party (UKIP) – has been endorsing.

“Britain has an innate desire to tell Europe to go f**k itself!,” John Oliver said.

UKIP has often found itself embroiled in controversies over its members being caught using racists slurs against the non-English population in Britain.

UKIP argued that a Brexit would enable the UK to significantly reduce immigration preventing both EU citizens from taking jobs and non-EU citizens from sneaking in to commit terror attacks. It is hard for me to overstate to you how poisonous things have become in England.

However, even with Brexit, Britain will not be able to change the immigration policy if they want to be a part of the single market which would entail freedom of movement both within and outside of the UK.

Jesting about the air of superiority that is usually associated with the English and their Englishness, Oliver said:

There is an innate British desire to tell Europe to go f**k itself. Here’s what I think about EU, it’s a complicated bureaucratic ambitious, overbearing, inspirational, and consistently irritating institution and Britain would be absolutely crazy to leave it. Especially because, if it stays, it can reap all the benefits while still being a total d**k about everything and that is the British way.
