22 years after Jurassic Park, will Jurassic World be able to elicit the same awestruck wonder from us? Check out what Stutee Ghosh has to say about the movie.
A lot has changed in the last 22 years. The Jurassic Park has now become the Jurassic World. Also, like one of the characters said in the movie, “No one is scared of a dinosaur any more.” So, director Colin Trevorrow and his team are trying to achieve in the movie what they are also trying to do outside of it – to sell the dinosaur theme park as best as they can.
The main lead is Indominus Rex – a hybrid dinosaur that is supposed to be bigger, better and scarier than the T-Rex. Dr Wu, the only character from the previous Jurassic Park film to make an appearance in this one, announces with his characteristic smirk how “she is not bred but designed.” Mr. Masrani, the owner of the newly opened Jurassic World played by our very own Irrfan Khan, is impressed. “She will give the parents nightmares too,” he declares confidently. We can’t wait to verify that claim!
As is the norm, the characters position themselves precariously on the predictable storyline. The Operations Manager Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) tries to grapple with the news of the Indominus Rex running loose while the park is teeming with thousands of unsuspecting kids and family . Her nephews, Zach and Gray, are stuck right in the middle of the disaster. Owen, a Velociraptor expert, is summoned to help contain the situation. While he has been trying to train the dinosaurs in a nearby facility, we still have to wait to see if the gigantic monster is in any mood to take orders from the super hot Chris Pratt.
By the time the film pauses for the interval, we’re certain there’s more fun ahead. The CGI and special effects ensure that our 3D experience of watching dinosaurs leap and grunt is a rewarding one. While the film is child friendly in more ways than one and will keep the kids engrossed, the adults might be left wanting more.
If the digital wizardry doesn’t impress you much, one thing definitely will – Bryce Dallas Howard running for survival in the unruly jungle terrain on 7 inch heels! Yes, she pulls up her sleeves, vows to save her nephews, runs like a maniac, presses the trigger when required but never once lets the dino slugfest get the better of her and her stilettos. Now here is something we haven’t seen in the earlier dinosaur movies. Thankfully, if I may add!
Apart from such histrionics on high heels, it isn’t easy to match the novelty of The Lost World. While Jurassic World gives it a good try, a generous sprinkling of some more spine-chilling moments would have definitely upped the ante.
Keep your expectations in check and you’re sure to enjoy this popcorn entertainer. I’ll give it 3.5 QUINTS out of 5.
