Sunayana, the widow of Srinivas Kuchibhotla who was shot dead in a Kansas bar, has expressed her desire to go back to the US to fulfil her husband's dream.

It is the least I could do for my Srinivas – fulfil his dreams through my eyes – and it is for this that I have to come back to the US.

Sunayana, who works for Intouch Solutions in Kansas, also said that a question which was on every immigrant's mind was whether they belong in the country anymore and if it was safe for them to raise families there.

She urged the leaders of the global tech industry to keep defending human rights as they employ a large number of immigrants.

At an earlier press conference, shortly after her husband was killed, Sunayana said Srinivas would’ve turned 33 in two weeks.

“I have a question in my mind: Do we belong?”, The Kansas City Star had quoted her as saying, as she recalled reading newspaper reports about some indiscriminate shooting or the other.

She used to wonder if it was safe to continue living in the United States. But Srinivas always assured her that “only good things happen to good people.” It was a devastating tragedy then that Srinivas’ faith was betrayed.

He was just enjoying his glass of beer when this guy started talking... even though he was talking so discrimately (sic) about his race, he (Srinivas) was still minding his own business. The bar management people let him go... my husband should have moved out from there. But he stayed back because he knew he was doing nothing wrong.

In the same press conference, Sunayana said they had moved to the USA to follow their American dream. They had recently bought their first house and Srinivas had painted the walls of the living room himself.

They had been planning a family.

I wish we had had a baby so I could see my husband in the child. Now I don’t even have that option, I only have his memories.

Sunayana now demands answers from the US government and wants to know what it will do to stop hate crimes against minorities.

The accused, Adam Purinton, was arrested on Thursday morning, five hours after the incident.

He was caught at a bar in Missouri where he reportedly told the bartender he had just killed two Middle Eastern men.
