In a case of communal violence, a mob destroyed at least ten temples and attacked hundreds of houses of Hindus in Brahminbaria, Bangladesh on Sunday afternoon, reported Dhaka Tribune.

A satirical Facebook post allegedly written against Masjid al-Haram, the holy site of Muslims, enraged hundreds of people who caused the destruction armed with weapons.

The incident injured more than 100 people and six people were detained regarding the attacks, according to reports. About 200 people have been sued for allegedly vandalising the temples in Madhabpur of Habiganj district, reported ANI.

Several hundred locals protested in Brahminbaria’s Nasirnagar region on Friday noon demanding that Rasraj Das, who allegedly was behind the Facebook post, to be hanged.

The temples are Duttobari temple, Nomosomudropara temple, Jagannath temple, Ghoshpara temple and Gouro temple.

Around 150 to 200 people launched the attacks and vandalised at least seven to eight idols of five temples in the area, Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.

Madrasa students of the district demonstrated at the district press club on Sunday demanding hanging of Rasraj Das, detained over the allegation of posting a picture of Masjid al-Haram, on which a picture of Shiva was juxtaposed, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Rasraj was detained by police and produced before a Brahmanbaria court on Saturday, after which he was sent to jail.
