The Jan Sikshan Sansthan (JSS), a Kerala-based NGO will be conferred with the prestigious UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy in Paris on Friday.
PV Abdul Wahab, the JSS Malappuram Chairman and also a Rajya Sabha member, will receive the award along with the unit’s Director V Ummerkoya.
The award aims to recognise the efforts of the NGO in helping underprivileged people achieve a better livelihood through its various activities in education and skill development.
The award will be presented as part of a two-day conference on 8 and 9 September at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
The conference will see the participation of Education Ministers from UNESCO’s member states.
The two-day conference will also showcase a panel discussion where participating MPs will present their views on implementing a programme that links literacy with other livelihoods. It will be moderated by Chakroun Borhene, Chief of Section, Youth, Literacy and Skill Development, UNESCO.
The third edition of Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE 3) will also be launched at the conference.
JSS is known for its literacy-linked skill development activities in Kerala’s rural Malappuram.
