A friend wrote on her Facebook wall, “Not a delivery man, but a delivery woman from Myntra came to deliver the pair of shoes I ordered. I missed seeing her, but my sister-in-law was happily surprised! In disbelief before opening the door, she confirmed twice that she is indeed a delivery woman both exchanged warm smiles.”
My friend was expecting a man to get her order as usual, but the sight of a woman delivering her package gave her more joy.
Even Cargo is India’s first women-only e-commerce logistics company. They have more than a dozen employees who they train to work as delivery personnel for online vendors.
Komal Gupta has been working as a delivery consultant for the past three months. The 22-year-old has been going door to door delivering packages.
I’d hardly ever gone out of Trilokpuri. Because of this job, I could explore Connaught Place, Rajendra Nagar – something I had never imagined. Komal lives with her mother and brother in a one-room house in Trilokpuri. Her mother works in a school canteen while her brother has taken over their father’s ice cream cart after the latter’s demise.
This is her first job. Recalling the feeling of getting her first salary she said, “I gave most of it to my mother. Earning money is very empowering. I give my salary to my mother and use the rest to fund my education.”
