Responding to a rising number of cases of violence against women in national capital, a new notification by the Union Transport Ministry makes it compulsory for buses to have CCTV cameras, GPS tracking device and emergency buttons.

The steps taken by the government fall under, what is called, ‘Nirbhaya Scheme’. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the steps are taken to prevent any further unfortunate incident. He also added that depending on the success of these initiatives, cabs will also be included in the plan and the scheme will be taken beyond the national capital.
