On International Women’s Day, we ask you a simple question, ‘What makes a woman laugh?’
Is it stereotypes ka atyachaar, or dollops of sanskaar? Join The Quint’s campaign, ‘Ab Laugh Naari’, and help us slay some misogynist notions, and also prove that laughter is contagious.
From “Beta, umar ho gayi hai... ab toh shaadi karr lo?” to “Suno, bra ka strap dikh raha hai... andar chupa ke rakho” there are hundred such phrases that women in our country are subjected to every single day. But, what drove us mad at some point, now just makes us laugh out loud.
‘You ain’t a naari if you can’t drape a saree’. ‘You are too loud for a woman, be more ladylike, no?’ From what we wear to how we sit or walk or just stand - the “society”, for no good reason, has a say in everything we do. Can you relate to this?
Watch Lipstick Under My Burkha actor Plabita Borthakur tell us 12 such “aunty” phrases that she is so tired of hearing that now when someone says any of these, she just... laughs.
Leave your comments here and let us know which of these statements you are ‘done’ with. Also, remember to just laugh the next time your mother’s aunt’s husband’s sister asks you the golden question,“Beta, life mein compromise toh karna padta hai, settle ho jao ab toh”.
