The abrogation of Article 370 was followed by a complete communication lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir, cutting it off from the rest of the world. Amid information blackout, restrictions and difficulties, The Quint has been on the field in Kashmir to bring out real voices and stories that mainstream media refused to show.

Through explainers, live telecast and ground reports, we at The Quint have aimed to bring you in-depth coverage of the Kashmir crisis.

Since the feeling of distrust is dominant among many in Kashmir, people weren’t ready to speak to the media . Our reporters have, nonetheless, worked tirelessly to gain trust among people and bring out their voices; voices that needed to be heard.

“I was looked upon as ‘Indian Media’ and that’s why people weren’t ready to talk to me, and they verbally attacked me. My driver helped me out by talking to these people and making them understand that I mean no harm. I believe the driver started to trust me after he saw the kind of stories I was doing.”
Poonam Agarwal, Special Correspondent, The Quint.

But this was just one of the difficulties we faced. Since phone lines and internet connections weren’t working, our reporters faced much difficulties in bringing home the information they had gathered while reporting.

“I had to transfer the footage to a pendrive, which I then took to the airport and requested people going to Delhi/Mumbai to take it with them, where people from our office can collect it. Convincing people was very difficult, used to take me 2-3 hours to make people believe that I am a journalist trying to do my work.”
Shadab Moize, Reporter, The Quint.

The Quint speaks truth to power and will continue to report the truth. If you want us to continue to invest in projects that are not necessarily covered in the mainstream media and bring you voices rarely heard, support us today.
