Subedar Major Vijay Kumar is the third Indian shooter to win a medal at the 2012 London Olympics, but unfortunately, this year he didn’t qualify. The Indian contingent will surely miss his experience in Rio 2016. And here’s why.

Subedar Major Vijay Kumar rose to prominence after he won a silver at 2012 London Olympics. The shooter stood second in the 25m rapid fire shooting category.

Kumar, who usually stays away from limelight, had a dream debut at Commonwealth Games in 2006. He won two gold medals. The same year, he claimed a bronze at the Asian Games.

He continued to improve himself as he won three gold medals and a silver in Commonwealth Games 2010.

But the biggest success of them all was a silver at 2012 London Olympics. He became the third Indian shooter to win a medal at the Olympics when he took home a silver.

For his achievements, he was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2012), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2013) and Padma Shri (2013).
