Late Friday evening, a rumour started doing the rounds on social media that there’s an acute shortage of salt in the market. It also claimed that, as a result, the prices have shot up. A kilogram of salt, which usually sells at Rs 10-17, was being sold for Rs 400-500. This reportedly led to a small riot in South Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area.

The Quint spoke to a few shopkeepers and customers who were equally clueless as to what brought the rumours. Hear them out:
