In Bhubaneswar, a 2.5ft long cobra got trapped accidentally in the steel mesh after swallowing a toad. The serpent couldn’t escape the drainage outlet due to the bulging abdomen and got stuck in the steel mesh.
On seeing the snake struggle, the temple authorities called a local volunteer Atul Baral who rushed to the scene to rid the snake of the mesh.
Devotees along with Atul Baral saved the venomous snake by digging the drainage outlet and later took it to the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (OUAT). X-ray showed that the snake was unhurt although it suffered some minor scratches.
After cutting the mesh with the metal cutter the serpent and was freed by Dr Biswadip Jena head of the department. The snake’s meal almost costed him his life and after hours of struggle, the tired snake finally regurgitated the frog.
