Violence has marred the last days of campaigning in West Bengal. While many clashes have been reported in recent weeks, tensions have come to a head after a statue of Bengali writer and philosopher Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was vandalised by unknown elements on 14 May.
The TMC has blamed the BJP's workers and the BJP has claimed that the TMC's cadre defaced the statue to "gain sympathy." Protests have now gripped West Bengal. Meanwhile, the BJP sits in protest against violence at Amit Shah's rally in Kolkata.
