Her father, Mohd Shamsher Khan tried to resolve the matter through negotiation but it to no avail. He even approached the village Panchayat who allegedly called his daughter a 'mad woman' and advised a divorce.

The couple had been married for a year, but the victim's father claims they were unaware of the man’s first marriage and that he was planning to marry a third time.

An FIR has been registered under Section 147, 323 and 498. Anil Kumar, SP, Ballia said that a Gazetted officer will probe investigation and actions will be taken in accordingly.

This incident raises questions on the freedom of artistic expression and the status of women amidst growing intolerance in the country.
