Now, students in Madhya Pradesh’s government schools will no longer reply to the daily roll call with a standard ‘Present, ma’am’, or ‘Yes, ma’am’. They have instead been directed to reply with a loud ‘Jai Hind’, to mark their presence.

The state education minister Vijay Shah said that this was being done to instill a sense of patriotism in the youth.

This will instill a sense of patriotism among the youth. I don’t think anyone will have an objection to it.

This comes only days after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that people in India should use words "Mata" and "Pita" for their parents.

Shah made the announcement while addressing NCC cadets on the National Cadet Corps Day on Sunday. He said that this would be enforced in all 1.22 lakh government schools, and an advisory in this regard would also be issued to all private schools.
