1. Rajya Sabha Elections Stir up Political Firestorm

The Rajya Sabha elections for Gujarat turned into a political firestorm on Tuesday as the counting of votes was halted with the Congress accusing two of its rebel MLAs of flashing their votes towards Amit Shah.

As per the rules, after casting their votes, the MLAs are supposed to show it to the polling agents of their own party before dropping it into the ballot box.

2. Chandigarh Stalking: Police Find CCTV Proof Against Vikas Barala

The Chandigarh Police on Monday night said it has retrieved the CCTV footage that supported DJ Varnika Kundu’s charge that Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala’s son Vikas and his friend followed her car in a midnight chase, Hindustan Times reported.

This comes after the police faced criticism earlier in the day for saying that the CCTV footage from five locations along the route had gone missing.

The CCTV footage is an integral part of proving Varnika’s charges against the BJP leader’s son and his friend Ashish.

Speaking at a press conference earlier in the day, the Chandigarh SSP asked that the case not be turned into a “media trial”.

3. ‘Swine Flu’ Is on the Rise: Spot the Symptoms and Stay Protected

H1N1, or swine flu as it’s commonly called, has hit the country in massive proportions this year. With more than 12,000 cases and at least 600 deaths, the virus continues to spread. From Maharashtra to Uttar Pradesh and from Tamil Nadu to Kerala, the spread of the virus is countrywide.

As cases increase by the day, experts have said this unseasonal strike of the virus may be because of a mutation which is making it flourish in the current environmental conditions.

4. Kerala High Court Orders BCCI to Lift Lifetime Ban on Sreesanth

The Kerala High Court, on 7 August, ordered the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to lift the lifetime ban on cricketer S Sreesanth – that was imposed on him after he was accused of spot fixing in 2013.

The cricketer approached the court in March challenging BCCI's decision against lifting the ban, despite a Delhi court exonerating him of all spot fixing charges in 2015.

The Indian cricket board has barred the cricketer from playing any form of the sport. The Kerala cricketer was arrested in the midst of the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was lodged in Tihar jail.

5. Kalki Koechlin Shares Her Bol With The Quint in Four Languages
