1. ‘Responsible for Loss in 2019 Polls’: Rahul Resigns as Congress President

Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, 3 July, officially resigned as the President of the Congress party, taking responsibility for the party’s loss in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Gandhi took to Twitter to state that he was honoured to have served as the Congress President and shared his resignation letter.

“I owe the country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love,” he wrote on Twitter.

2. 23 Feared Dead, 11 Bodies Recovered After Dam Breach in Ratnagiri

Twenty three persons are feared dead, and bodies of 11 have been recovered after a Tiware dam in Tehsil Chiplun of Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district gave way on Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday, 3 July, reported ANI. Officials have recovered bodies of the nine, of whom three are female and six male.

"So far, 11 bodies have been recovered," said Additional Superintendent of Police, Ratnagiri, Vishal Gaikwad. He added that the police have moved the villagers to safety.

Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan has left to visit the accident site, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin. The CM has also ordered an inquiry into the incident.

4. Ambati Rayudu, India’s Reserve WC Batsman, Announces Retirement

With the Indian team picking Mayank Agarwal to replace the injured Vijay Shankar for the ongoing ICC World Cup, Ambati Rayudu has decided retire from all forms of cricket, a BCCI official has confirmed to PTI.

Rayudu was named as a reserve batsman when the Chairman of Selectors, MSK Prasad, announced India’s 15-man squad for the World Cup back in April.
