If you intend to fly in and out of Mumbai in February and March, plan in advance.

About 230 daily flights might be cancelled as the Mumbai airport closes for at least six hours a day, from 7 February to 30 March. The city’s airport runways will be shut as part of maintenance activities during the said window, reported BloombergQuint.

The intersection of the two runways will be recarpeted, or repaired, during this period. The airport will be shut between 11 am and 5 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during the period.

The two runways together handle about 85 flights an hour. While the primary runway handles about 50 flights an hour, the second one sees 35 flights take off.

The partial closure may even lead to rise in fares, especially in the Mumbai-Delhi route, the busiest.

However, medical flights will be permitted beyond hours of closure. The airport will also remain operational on 21 March, on the occasion of Holi.

Flights to Delhi, Goa and Bengaluru are expected to witness the most cancellations or rescheduling.
