Ever wondered how it is like to fly like birds?
Christen Moullec, a French ornithologist, has built a microlight aircraft to guide the migrating birds through safer routes avoiding hunters with guns. He realised that birds migrate because of depletion of natural habitats and lack of resources and decided to escort them to safer regions. In Cantal-Auvergne, Christen trains the birds like Geese, Cranes and Swans since the time they hatch.
In 1995 Christen Moullec completed a flight of 2,000 kilometres from Sweden to Germany followed by 30 geese. Since then, he teaches them everything a parent bird would teach including taking better flights and detecting dangers nearby. Featured in plenty of documentaries, he is the creator of the 'Vol en V' association for the protection of migratory birds .
The initial objective was to raise awareness about the protection of migratory birds but to raise funds for his projects Christen has set up a company offering microlights to the public coupled with the experience of staying in the tree houses.
Canadian Bill Lishman was the first person to lead migrating geese with a microlight, in 1986 which became the inspiration for the 1996 film, ‘Fly Away Home’.
