The controversies, arrest, bail denial, and prison life of actor Dileep has definitely dented the image of the Malayalam film industry.

After postponing the release date of the film for a while, and even as the judicial custody of the actor was extended till 12 October, his latest film Ramaleela finally hit the screens.

The 20-crore budget movie is receiving moderate attention from Kerala, but not doing so well elsewhere. Ramaleela is the story about Ramanunni (Dileep), an ex-MLA who jumps ship from one political party into the rival party and plans to contest in the elections. A number of rivals and competitors are eyeing him, and therefore, he carries a licensed gun for his safety.

Due to a sudden turn of events, when a top leader is shot, Ramanunni becomes the prime suspect. The plot revolves around how he proves his innocence. It is produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam, whose earlier Mohanlal film Pulimurugan was a 150+ crore bumper hit.

The storyline sees a lot of references with the current line of events as the actor is fighting to prove the allegations against him.

Dileep has been lodged at the Aluva jail since 10 July in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of another female Kerala actor, and his four bail applications have been turned down until now.

His ex-wife, actor Manju Warrier, came out in support of her former husband’s film, saying our personal likes and dislikes should not affect a film that involves other lives and careers.
