Karnataka Portfolio: Congress Gets 22 Ministries, JD(S) Gets 12

The Congress-JD(S) combine in Karnataka made two big announcements on 1 June: First, that they’d contest the 2019 general elections together, confirming a pre-poll alliance, and second, what portfolios were allotted to which party in the alliance.

Kabaddi Has Arrived in India, Says Jaipur Owner Abhishek Bachchan

The 2018 edition of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) auction turned out to be a landmark event, witnessing the making and breaking of records with five Indians and one foreign player entering the Rs 1 crore club.

On the first day of the two-day auction, Iran star Fazal Atrachali created history by becoming the first to be sold for a price of Rs 1 crore before raider Monu Goyat became the most expensive player when Haryana Steelers secured his services for a whopping Rs 1.51 crore.

Thursday's proceeding's were more sedate in comparison. Prashant Kumar Rai was the hot pick of the day as UP Yoddhas bagged the raider for Rs 79 lakh.

The Quint caught up with Jaipur Pink Panthers’ owner Abhishek Bachchan at the Pro Kabaddi League auction. The actor said, nobody thought that PKL would as big as it is today.

Everything and everyone in Shashank Ghosh’s Veere Di Wedding exists to remind and prepare us for this huge, big fat Punjabi wedding – from the opening flashback sequence with the four best friends in school uniforms talking about “shaadi-waadi” to 10 years later still hovering around “wedding shedding”!

They talk about how everyone is only taking about getting married, they crib about how society only wants them to get married, they discuss their own wedding expectations all this while rolling their eyes, swearing to their hearts content, laughing, drinking but not moving an inch from the shaadi ka topic.

Set against the backdrop of the 2011 anti-corruption movement in the country and throbbing with raw idealism, Vickramaditya Motwani’s latest Bhavesh Joshi pulsates and swirls trying to channel the anger that most Indian’s feel about the sordid state of affairs in the country. It’s an interesting premise, which takes some time to settle itself down but has enough chutzpah to keep us hooked.
