1. Pranab Mukherjee Addresses RSS Workers in Nagpur

Shrugging off the growing unease within the Congress party, former President and veteran Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee addressed young recruits of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the organisation’s ‘Tritiya Varsh Varg’ event on Thursday, 7 June.

The former president opened his address by saying, “I am here amongst you to share my understanding with you of the concepts of nation, nationalism and patriotism in the context of India.”

2. Fans Go All-Out for ‘Kaala’, Rajinikanth’s Most Political Film

Rajinikanth’s Kaala hit theatres worldwide on Thursday, 7 June, as scheduled, after the Supreme Court, on 6 June, refused to stay its release. However, the usual fan frenzy surrounding a Rajinikanth film, which was initially absent, returned with fans going all-out celebrating Thalaivar’s new release.

3. NDRF, Navy Alerted: Mumbai On High Alert for Heavy Rains

Mumbai is expecting very heavy rainfall over the 9-10 June weekend, and the BMC is taking no chances this time. The BMC has cancelled leaves of all its officials, scheduled for 9 and 10 June.

Heavy downpour was reported on the morning of Thursday, 7 June, and several residents took to social media to highlight water-logging in parts of the city.

Meanwhile, arrangements have been made to place three teams of NDRF personnel, bearing flood rescue equipment, at locations in Parel, Mankhurd and Andheri.

Six flood rescue teams from the Mumbai fire brigade have been positioned at six regional command centres. Fire brigade teams have also been stationed, along with teams of the City Disaster Response Force and the police on six beaches across the city.

The Navy has also been positioned in areas like Colaba, Worli, Trombay and Malad for flood rescue, if needed.
