1. Karnataka Elections: JD(S)-Congress Meet Governor Amidst Deadlock

The Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) and Congress leaders met Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala on Wednesday, 16 May, to press their claim for government formation.

"We have submitted a list of 117 MLAs to governor and requested him to consider our claim to form government," JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy said.

In a press conference after the meet, KPCC chief G Parameshwara said “Governor assured us he would act as per Constitution, Supreme Court judgments and precedents”.

2. IMD Issues 72 Hours Warning About Thunderstorm

After a dust storm hit the national capital early Wednesday, Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for next 72 hours anticipating similar weather conditions across large parts of north India including Delhi.

According to the warning bulletin issued in the morning, "Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds (with speed 50-70 kms) very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh".

The same predictions have been made for tomorrow at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Police said that an 18-year-old man was killed and 13 people injured in the dust storm that hit the city in the early hours of the day.

3. Shame! Big Bollywood Stars Absent at the Women’s March at Cannes

While the world was watching 82 women march on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, our biggest stars who are regulars at the film festival were nowhere to be seen. But thankfully two Indian women were part of the 82 who walked down the red carpet and stood on the steps at the 71st Cannes festival to protest against gender inequality at the festival and in the film industry.

A big shout out to Rasika Duggal and Nandita Das from team Manto who did what was need of the hour.

But, how many of our Indian actors who are regularly seen at Cannes were there? NONE!

4. Walmart-Flipkart Deal: Govt Policies Hamstring Our Entrepreneurs

As with anger, so with euphoria; both cloud reason. So I was waiting for the congratulatory din to subside before giving my assessment. Honestly, it’s very mixed.
