Alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav was on Monday sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court for espionage and sabotage activities. Here’s a quick wrap of the key developments in the case so far.
1. India Calls the Sentence A ‘Case of Premeditated Murder’
Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar has summoned and told Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit that if the sentence is carried out, India "will regard it as a case of premeditated murder".
2. 'Shocking Development’: Jadhav’s Relatives to The Quint
Speaking to The Quint, Jadhav’s relatives in Mumbai disclosed that “this shocking development” comes two weeks after some of them met key Indian politicians and officials from the security establishment.

Reacting to the news, AS Dulat, former RAW chief, called the sentencing “an unfortunate provocation”.
4. Jadhav Arrested in Balochistan in 2016
Jadhav was reportedly arrested in Balochistan in 2016. India has acknowledged that Jadhav was a retired Indian Navy officer but said he was no longer linked to the government in any capacity. India also claims Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran by Pakistan’s ISI.
