1. Suresh Prabhu Offers to Resign After Kaifiyat Express Derails in UP
Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday after the Kaifiyat Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district early on Wednesday morning.
Parbhu offered to resign from his post but Union Minister Arun Jaitley said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take a call on his offer to quit.
Wednesday’s accident left around 100 people injured. Earlier, the Utkal Express derailed near Muzaffarnagar on 19 August, killing 22 people and wounding over 100.
2. Malegaon Blast Accused Lt Col Purohit Walks Free After 9 Years
Malegaon blast accused Lt Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit was released from Navi Mumbai’s Taloja jail after nine years on Wednesday.
He was driven out of the prison in a car at around 10.45 am. A team of military police and Quick Response Team of the Army escorted Purohit out of the jail.
On Tuesday, a day after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the 2008 case, Purohit said he wanted to rejoin the Army.
3. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Rape Case Verdict: Punjab, Haryana on Alert
Followers of Dera Sacha Sauda leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh have started gathering in large numbers in Panchkula, ahead of the CBI court's verdict in a rape case against him, scheduled for 25 August.
Over 40,000 followers of the controversial godman have gathered at Naam Charcha Ghar in Sector 23 of Panchkula.
Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh governments have imposed prohibitory orders and banned the holding of flag marches ahead of the verdict.
Senior police and administrative officers of Haryana, Punjab and UT Chandigarh held meetings on 23 August to take stock of the security arrangements, officials said.
4. Dangal in Doklam: After 7 Sins, Here’s India’s Sonu Song for China
China’s state news agency Xinhua recently released a bizarre video on the Doklam standoff. The video featured a turbaned and bearded man wielding a pair of scissors. The video named ‘7 Sins of India’ went viral for its racist insinuations.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also said India's logic that Chinese road-building in Doklam on the border posed a threat to New Delhi was "ridiculous and vicious".
