Robbers posing as a couple looking to buy jewellery cleaned out a jewellery store in Sangareddy, Telangana. They made off with cash of over Rs 4 lakh and around one kg of gold, on 4 July.

CCTV footage shows the robbers thrashing the owner of the store before escaping. Jayaram, the shop owner, did put up a fight but was eventually overpowered.

According to the Deccan Chronicle, the robbers threatened the gun owner with a pistol before throwing chilli powder in his eyes.

The incident happened after 8 pm just as Jayaram was about to close his shop. The robbers had spent quite some time in the shop browsing through jewellery before they robbed it.

He went inside the storeroom after notifying his customers that he was about to close shop, and one of the robbers followed him and threw chilli powder on his face.

According to Jayaram, the robbers had frequented the shop for six months before the incident and would buy gold and silver jewellery.

Local police have formed 5 groups to bring the perpetrators in.
