Kolkata has become the centre of drama as the CBI vs Kolkata Police row unfolds. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who was on dharna for three days since 2 February decided to put a pause on it, claiming that she shall resume it in the national capital next week.
She further welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision which said the CBI can’t detain or question Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, but he must cooperate with the CBI on the matter. The decision is a victory for the people, she added.
BJP too welcomed the decision claiming it as a victory. UP CM Yogi Adityanath, in a rally in WB’s Purulia, said that now Mamata can’t protect corrupt officials anymore.
Meanwhile, the MHA on Tuesday asked the Bengal government to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Kolkata Police Chief Rajeev Kumar for violating the All India Service rules.

CBI officials reach the door of Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in an attempt to question him in regard to the Saradha chit fund scam. However, before the CBI officials could reach Kumar, Kolkata police detained the officials.
Didi, protesting the move by the CBI, went on a dharna and further blamed the CBI for acting under the orders given by PM Modi and BJP President Amit Shah.
Opposition leaders from all across the nation came in support of Didi, many even sharing the stage with her in her protest.
The matter was taken to the Supreme Court which ruled that the CBI can’t detain the Kolkata Police Commissioner. However, the commissioner must cooperate with the CBI into the probe.
