A video clip shows the roof of AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s hostel being ripped off by the gale force winds of Cyclone Fani, which made a landfall in Odisha on Friday, 3 May, submerging villages, uprooting trees and killing at least three.

"Extensive damage to the structure of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, all patients, staff and students safe," Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan was quoted as saying, reported NDTV.

The video was posted online by Sitanshu Kar, the Director General of the Press Information Bureau.

The medical institute had earlier cancelled its post graduate examination scheduled for Sunday, 5 May, due to the cyclone.

Other videos show the destruction that the cyclone has caused; uprooted trees, deserted streets and damaged power lines. Around 11 lakh people have been relocated and over 240 medical institutions have been given power back-up to deal with casualties, reports NDTV.

Addressing a poll rally in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Centre has arranged a Rs 1,000 crore relief fund in advance for the coastal states.

Fani is the most severe cyclonic storm to hit Odisha since the ‘super cyclone’ of 1999, that claimed close to 10,000 lives, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre.
