Note showering at festivals and religious events is a regular sight but shooting a firearm incessantly into the air while showering numerous notes at a wedding in Junagadh has gone viral for its hard-hitting opulence and show of power.

The video, reportedly recorded 20 days ago at the wedding ceremony of the son of a Kathi Kshatriya builder named Jaskubai saw relentless celebratory gunfire and note showering, ANI reported on Wednesday.

Popular numbers of Gujarati singer Kirtidan Gadvi were being played amidst the presence of the state’s known personalities, religious figures and revellers who fired shots from six guns and showered notes. The sight of the gun shots being fired is clearly visible in the video.

After the video went viral, the police had its task cut out and took note of this brazen assertion of dominance. Builder Jaskubhai and six others were booked under Section 336 of the IPC and under 25/1A, 25/1B, 29 and 30 of the Arms Act, 1959, the ANI report added.

Celebratory gunfire is culturally accepted during celebrations like weddings in the Kathi Kshatriya communities of Amreli and Junagadh.

Wielding a gun is touted to be a marker of caste, wealth and social status.

The practice of wedding revellers carrying arms and firing shots in the air to celebrate an occasion, especially weddings, has been going on since a long time. Due to legal constraints these days, the custom is on but firing is done using an air gun.
