The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) countered West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments on the National Register of Citizens (NRC), a day after she called the NRC draft a part of the government’s ‘divide and rule’ politics. BJP MP Babul Supriyo said Banerjee was playing ‘appeasement politics’ over the NRC.

Assam shares a long border with Bangladesh. West Bengal’s situation is also very similar. We all know about Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement policies. Media has also shown how dangerous Rohingyas have been flourishing under Didi. We all know what TMC does, one must ask a Bengali. They are trying to suppress democracy through Gundagiri. We are addressing the problem that the common people are not able to talk about.

BJP MLA Dilip Ghosh said the party would evict illegal migrants from West Bengal if they came into power.

The final NRC draft released on 30 July 2018 left out the names of over 40 lakh people out of a total of around 3 crore applicants.
