The BJP government and the principal opposition, Congress reached a truce on Wednesday in the Rajya Sabha, over scathing attacks they made against each other during the Gujarat elections.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley issued clarification over Narendra Modi’s attack against his predecessor Manmohan Singh and Former Vice President Hamid Ansari during the recently held Gujarat polls.

Let me categorically state that the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not question, nor did he mean to question the commitment of Former PM Manmohan Singh or Former Vice President Hamid Ansari to this nation. Any such perceptions are erroneous. We hold these leaders in high esteem.

Following Arun Jaitley's statement, the Congress, represented by Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, reciprocated by disapproving Mani Shankar Aiyar's ‘Neech’ remark against Prime Minister Modi.

I thank the leader of the house for investigating the issue that created controversy last week. We disassociate ourselves from the derogatory statements made by us during the Gujarat elections against the PM. Even in the future, we don’t want to say anything that hurts the dignity of the PM’s post.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader, Congress

PM Modi had accused Manmohan Singh of conspiring with Pakistanis to defeat the BJP in the Gujarat election after the former Prime Minister and Former Vice President Hamid Ansari participated in a dinner hosted by former Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar at his residence in honour of former Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri.
