NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Kant said that India has opened up its economy at a time when other countries are becoming protectionist.

Speaking on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Kant said:

We maintained our growth along with structural reforms. We worked for financial inclusion, along with financial growth.

Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech, Kant said that the PM will tell India's unique story to the world.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming here to tell the unique story of India's growth and structural reforms it has taken up. India has opened up its economy at a time when countries are turning protectionist. Our foreign direct investment (FDI) grew by 62 percent, when across the world it fell by 16 percent," Kant added.

Calling the reforms initiated by the Modi government “revolutionary,” the NITI Aayog chief said the world needs to be made aware about the same.

The kind of structural reforms like the goods and services tax (GST), the digital push, the fact that we are one country with a billion biometric, a billion bank accounts – no other country has that. These are things which need to be told.

Modi will address the plenary session of the World Economic Forum. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to attend the summit in more than two decades. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu will accompany the PM.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu, and Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao are also among the registered government leaders from India. Many senior government officials are also participating in a number of panel discussions.

The Indian leaders are also expected to hold a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings as well.
