Hours after the Supreme Court ruled that LK Advani along with other BJP veterans would be tried for criminal conspiracy in the demolition of 16th century Babri Masjid, Uma Bharti, who too has been charged in the case by CBI, said she would take “all necessary steps to ensure the construction of a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.”
Speaking to news agency ANI, the Union Minister also dismissed charges of conspiracy while adding that she had long declared her intention of building a grand ram temple in Ayodhya.
There’s no question of conspiracy on our part. That we desire the construction of a grand Ram Temple is clear.Uma Bharti, Union Minister
Echoing Bharti, BJP Lawmaker Vinay Katiyar, who too has been named in the case, declared it was the CBI that had hatched a conspiracy against them. Both Katiyar and Bharti said they were ready to face imprisonment.
Reacting to the SC’s order, Congress leader Kapil Sibal wondered if Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ‘who’s otherwise an advocate of good-governance’, would take action against Uma Bharti and others. Similarly, the AIMIM’S Asaduddin Owaisi also questioned how Uma Bharti was being allowed to continue as Union Minister, despite allegations of ‘criminal conspiracy.’
