It was a ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai’ moment for the Opposition at HD Kumaraswamy’s oath-taking ceremony in Bengaluru on Wednesday, 23 May. Former National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies joined hands with the Congress, and arch-rivals shared dais at the event.
Arch-rivals in Bengal, Saath Saath in Bengaluru
Adversaries in the Bengal battle, Mamata Banerjee and Sitaram Yechury, shared the dais, joined hands and even smiled for the cameras at HD Kumaraswamy’s oath-taking ceremony. Banerjee was one of the first leaders to congratulate the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) leaders and confirm her presence at the ceremony.
Bua And Bhatija’s Badhta Hua Bonhomie
Arch-rivals for years, they joined hands in Uttar Pradesh against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Their bonhomie was at display again in Bengaluru. ‘Bua’ Mayawati and ‘Bhatija’ Akhilesh flashed victory sign alongside Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders.
He Who Defeated Modi Single-Handedly
The one man who defeated the BJP single-handedly in the Delhi election (67-3) in less than a year after Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, Arvind Kejriwal also joined hands with other Opposition leaders at the swearing-in ceremony of HD Kumaraswamy in Karnataka.
Former NDA Ally Links Arms With Rahul
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu shared the stage with the Gandhis, months after his much-hyped divorce with the NDA. He joined the other big faces as the Opposition united ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Sharad Pawar and Sharad Yadav also linked arms at the invitation of HD Kumaraswamy and Rahul Gandhi. Both the estranged allies of the Congress let bygones be bygones and participated in the massive show of strength by the Opposition.
