Over 1,300 Sheep Take Over the Streets of Madrid
The age-old tradition is known as the ‘Fiesta de la Transhumancia’
Shepherds drove 1,300 sheep through the centre of Madrid, Spain to celebrate an age-old tradition which is known as the ‘Fiesta de la Transhumancia’. The tradition marks the celebration of ancient grazing and migration rights increasingly threatened by urban sprawl and modern agricultural practices.
Tourists and city-dwellers were surprised to see the capital's traffic cut to permit the ovine parade to bleat its way past some of the city's most well-known locations.
