During the no-confidence motion debate in the Lok Sabha on Friday, 20 July, Congress President Rahul Gandhi launched a fiery attack on the Narendra Modi government. He fired a volley of questions towards the prime minister in his speech, which, quite surprisingly, ended with him hugging the PM.

From demonetisation to unemployment rates and mob lynchings to women’s security , Gandhi touched upon a range of topics to target the Modi government.

Why is PM Modi Silent on the Rafale Deal?

I don’t know who he talked to, but our prime minister went to France. The whole nation knows who he went with. Magically, the prices of jets increased to Rs 1,600 crore per jet.

The BJP MPs, including Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, brought the house down when Gandhi raked up the Rafale aircraft deal with the French government. Gandhi claimed that the defence minister had lied when she told the nation she couldn’t reveal information about the deal because of a ‘secret pact’ with the French government – a pact he said the French President told him didn’t exist. He attacked the BJP for ‘favouritism’ in assigning the Rafale deal to a businessman with no experience in building planes, instead of to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Why are Loans Waived Off for the Rich and Not for the Poor Farmers?

Everybody understands the relationship the PM has with certain business people. The farmers pleaded with the PM to waive off their loans. He waived off Rs 2.5 crore of some 15-16 rich people, but didn’t listen to the farmers. The PM only talks to 15-16 businessmen. What the farmers and the underprivileged feel...it doesn’t reach the Prime Minister.
