It would have been a regular late-night football practice session for the team members of “Malviya Nagar Maniacs” in their neighbourhood park. But as soon as they heard the sound of a young woman being attacked by a miscreant, the boys rushed out of the park to her rescue, nabbed the attacker, and in the process became local heroes.

On the fateful night of August 19, 2015 an Uzbek woman was attacked by a man at about 10 PM, while she was walking alone on the road in the Malviya Nagar area of New Delhi. That’s when Japneet Singh, a second-year-student of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Sarthak Sharma, a class XII student of LBS School RK Puram, and Arun Singh Rajput, a class XII student of St Paul’s School ran to save her.

Speaking to The Quint, Japneet Singh, said, “whenever we come across such an incident, we shouldn’t act as mute spectators.”

The boys believe that only by looking out for each other, can we prevent such crimes from happening.

The Quint salutes these teenagers for their bravery.
