Kaun Banega Crorepati’s ongoing 10th season has got its first 'crorepati.' Binita Jain, a tuition teacher and single parent from Guwahati in Assam, answered the first 14 questions correctly to win Rs 1 crore during Tuesday night’s (2 October) episode. It was an overwhelming atmosphere on the set and on giving the correct answer, Binita couldn’t comprehend what had happened. So far, the highest amount won on the show was Rs 25 lakh.
She told The Quint how she prepared for KBC and she even had tips for those who want to sit on the hot seat opposite host Amitabh Bachchan.
She also shared her remarkable life story while seated in the hot seat. Binita’s husband went on a business trip to a neighbouring state in February 2003 and never returned. He was allegedly kidnapped by terrorists and later declared legally dead but Binita and her family never stopped hoping for his return.
18 months after he first disappeared, tired of the search and waiting, Binita decided to start teaching students at a coaching centre to be able to support her family — a son and a daughter. Binita started her class with seven students. Today, she teaches Social Studies and English to a group of 125 children.
Watch her narrate her story and answer the Rs 1 crore winning question in this video:
Complimenting Binita on her grit and determination, host Amitabh Bachchan said it's people like her who inspire him to keep going every day.
So far in this season of KBC, two contestants — Somesh Kumar Choudhary, a ticket examiner from Bhagalpur and Sandip Savaliya, a graphic designer from Gujarat — have won Rs 25 lakhs each.
In the last season, Anamika Majumdar from Jamshedpur had won Rs 1 crore on the quiz show.
