After all the ruckus around the Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus Padmaavat, the film has successfully hit the screens. While everybody is praising Ranveer Singh’s fierce performance, Jim Sarbh, who played the role of Malik Kafur in the film, has won over critics. His outstanding chemistry with Ranveer leaves you craving for more.

Although there are only a few scenes of Malik Kafur in the film and mostly with Ranveer, Jim has portrayed the role of the slave with elan. His perfect Afghani accent and evoking eyes just add to the experience. The relationship between Khilji and Kafur has sexual subtexts, though it was not explicitly portrayed in the movie.

Jim is four movies old and in the conversation, speaks about how Ranveer was impressed by his performance in Neerja and suggested his name for Padmaavat. Jim was in Las Vegas when he was informed about the role and had to send his audition sequence where he had to enact the role of a slave. He wanted the director of the film to see his reaction when his friend, who played Khilji in the audition sequence, sniffed and walked around him. In no time, he was locked for the role. Jim’s enactment of a blind devotion to Khilji is impeccable.

Jim also speaks about how Ranveer was so energetic and always made him realise about how blessed and lucky he should feel to be a part of the production. He mentions how director Sanjay Leela Bhansali pushes everyone to deliver their best.

Jim Sarbh has earlier appeared in films like Raabta and A Death in the Gunj, amongst others apart from Neerja and Padmaavat. His film Jonaki was screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film received a standing ovation at the festival.
